When a city finishes its day

Each row uses a Monday to Friday window from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM local time.
London follows normal LBMA market-maker hours.
The other five cities use comparison windows, not verified exchange schedules.

Weekends follow each city's local date.
Sydney can reach Monday morning while Arizona is still on Sunday afternoon.

Gold and silver spot trades occur between counterparties around the world.
One city finishing its business day does not close the global market.

What a holiday changes

A local holiday can reduce staffing or delay settlement, when payment and metal are transferred.
It does not automatically close every dealer or the markets in other countries.

London bullion settlement dates account for UK and U.S. holidays.
London quoting obligations can also finish earlier when New York is closed.
That exception is not inferred from every U.S. bank holiday here.

On October 12, 2026, New York has a Federal Reserve holiday and Tokyo has Sports Day.
Other centers have their own calendars.

A U.S. VIEW

Storage is not state ownership.

Federal Treasury gold is held at locations in several states. A vault's location does not make its contents that state's reserves.

AND WHAT ABOUT SILVER?

Different metal. Different dataset.

Silver bullion is not part of the IMF monetary-reserve definition. There is no comparable verified country ranking of central-bank silver holdings here.

Mine production and metal still underground answer different questions. They should not be mixed with gold held in official reserves.

The jewelry lens.

Compare the metal inside a piece with its retail price.

WHAT IS THE METAL WORTH?

Jewelry value calculator

Use verified weight and purity. For earrings, use the total pair weight if the price covers a pair. Plated, gold-filled, and mixed-metal items cannot be valued from gross weight using this calculator. A stone's carat weight is not gold karat purity.

THE PRICE YOU ACTUALLY PAY

Five terms worth knowing.

Spot
An indicative price for near-immediate settlement. The over-the-counter market has multiple providers, not one universal last trade.
Bid / ask
For a named dealer, bid is what it pays; ask is what it charges. Physical product quotes may be different.
Premium
The price above the fine metal's spot value, before or after fees depending on the comparison.
Troy ounce
31.1034768 grams. Bullion is quoted in troy ounces, not ordinary ounces.
Gold / silver ratio
Gold price divided by silver price, using the same currency, unit, and approximately the same quote time.

TIME OF DAY

The best hour to buy?

This edition collects actual observations while the page is open. A short local session is not enough to establish an intraday buying pattern. Spreads and dealer premiums can matter as much as small spot moves.

Use Live to inspect second-stamped observations, and the dealer desk to compare full physical-product costs. A reliable hour-of-day study needs a continuous, licensed tick archive with market-session and daylight-saving adjustments.
